Paul’s story
Paul Mahy-Rhodes grew up passionate about two things; going as fast as possible point to point whether it be on foot, or bike, and cars. Especially Porsche. So much so that at 15 he sent hand-drawn technical drawings of a 993 911 to Dick Lovett, who kindly sent back a number of hard-backed Porsche books.
In his early 20’s, Paul worked for a number of automotive brands, including Honda, Chrysler/JEEP and notably, Lotus.
It took until his late 20’s before discovering a vocation in engineering. Paul joined the Royal Air Force after achieving an open offer for all trades before studying at the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering. Upon completing the requisite courses to become a qualified RADAR engineer, Paul deployed twice to Operation HERRICK in Afghanistan where he acted as SME for the primary radar system during the drawdown of NATO forces, earning him the Operational Service Medal with bar, NATO Non-article 5 medal and a Queens Commendation.
After leaving the Armed Forces, Paul continued his professional education with the Open University, earning a BSc (HONS) STEM, focussing on innovation, environmental management, engineering change, and safety in design. Furthermore, Paul is a full member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), currently working towards Chartered Engineer status with the Engineering Council.
After 20 years in engineering, Paul has begun to give back, building a STEM outreach programme for disadvantaged young people for NATS, called Future Minds.
In reality, that’s only a small part of the story…
Ever since Paul bought his first car, one thing always happened; almost all cars were quickly modified. In the last 20 years, Paul has always sought to achieve the same thing with each car - that the whole was more than the sum of the parts. The car’s were always finished in his mind, before the work began.
It’s an ethos that still rings true today.
Whether its an CMN Touring build, the RENN550, or supporting a client in their own journey, the delicate balance of creating something fresh and new, but cohesive and intentional is always at the heart of any design.
With that rare blend of technical skill and creative instinct, clients are invited to collaborate.
